Fiji residents are starting to tidy up after a powerful cyclone blew with the Pacific island nation. Cyclone Evan on Monday tore roofs from residences and churches, flooded roadways and forced thousands to leave their residences. Strong seas near the capital, Suva, pulled 2 container ships onto a reef. Authorities state they intend to refloat them. Overall, Fiji appears to have come with the storm fairly undamaged, with some locations yet to be assessed. There are no reports of deaths, the international airport at Nadi reopened Tuesday and a lot of tourist resorts sustained only minor damage. Power and interactions continue to be down in parts of the country. The storm previously created greater havoc on Samoa. Authorities on Tuesday deserted a look for 10 missing out on fishermen, bringing the death toll there to 14.

That's how Obama campaign manager Jim Messina explained the state of the presidential race today, less than a week before voters head to the surveys. Democrats have actually been heartily positive about their leads, swatting away speculation today that brand-new advertisements and campaign stops in states that had been considered safe-- Minnesota, Michigan and Pennsylvania-- are signs of a struggling campaign. "I've put my moustache on the line," senior planner David Axelrod stated of Obama's chances of holding those 3 states. Get even more pure politics at ABCNews. com/Politics and a lighter take on the information at OTUSNews. com
Axelrod earlier today bet Joe Scarborough, host of "Morning Joe," that he would "shave off my moustache of 40 years if we lose any of those states.".

Police spokesman Paul Browne said the acquaintances told investigators they saw Aaron Greene sprinkle a white powder in the park and then ignite it. Browne says police believe the powder was HMTD, a bomb-making material they found in the couple's apartment last month. The new details emerged after police searched the Orangeburg, N.Y. home of Greene's friend. They found 21 guns, brass knuckles, two stun guns and a switchblade knife. Browne said police went there after Greene said he had given some of his weapons to the man. Greene's lawyer did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

An Ohio man has been accused of bashing his brother over the head with a cremation urn, breaking the urn and creating a cloud of human ashes. Police say officers responding to a domestic-violence report in Lorain on Friday saw Joel Perez threaten to kill his brother and smash the urn against his head, knocking him unconscious. Officers say Perez fought them when they tried to arrest him and they zapped him with a stun gun before taking him into custody. Cleveland's WEWS-TV said Monday (http://bit. ly/WA0oBE) that Perez has been charged with domestic violence, felonious assault and resisting arrest. Perez is in custody and can't be reached for comment. There's no telephone listing for him at the address given by police. It's unclear what the brothers were arguing about or whose ashes were in the urn.

NEW YORKOpponents are pressing to delay enforcement of the city's novel plan to crack down on supersized, sugary drinks, saying businesses shouldn't have to spend millions of dollars to comply until a court rules on whether the measure is legal. With the rule set to take effect March 12, beverage industry, restaurant and other business groups have asked a judge to put it on hold at least until there's a ruling on their lawsuit seeking to block it altogether. The measure would bar many eateries from selling high-sugar drinks in cups or containers bigger than 16 ounces. "It would be a tremendous waste of expense, time, and effort for our members to incur all of the harm and costs associated with the ban if this court decides that the ban is illegal," Chong Sik Le, president of the New York Korean-American Grocers Association, said in court papers filed Friday.

SALEM, N.H. –  A bald eagle found in an animal trap on Thanksgiving Day was freed by police who watched it fly away apparently unharmed beyond a small cut on its leg, Salem police said Friday. On Thursday afternoon James Ransom of Metheun, Mass. , who was scouting hunting locations, called police to report he'd found the eagle next to the recently skinned remains of a beaver. "It is being considered a rare and unfortunate incident that fortunately had a happy ending."- Sgt. Mike Wagner Police said it appeared the eagle was attempting to feed on the beaver and got caught in the trap. Officer John O'Donnell covered the eagle with a blanket while Ransom worked to untangle the bird's wing from around a small tree and to release the jaws of the trap.

Britain's Ministry of Defense says the photos were taken down after an "administrative oversight" meant that they had not received proper military clearance. William, 30, is a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot based in Anglesey, Wales. The pictures, which showed him going through his daily routine, included images of unclassified user names, passwords and computer screens. The ministry said in a statement that passwords and user names were reset as a precaution and that the photos were reissued. The 10 images on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official website show him getting himself a cup of tea and making his own bed, among other routine tasks.
