Millions of Americans stacked their families into autos, gotten on buses and suffered delays at airports Wednesday as they set off on Thanksgiving hikes that many said needed financial sacrifice, aid from relatives to create airline tickets and hours searching online for deals. Accepting that the roadway out of the economic downturn will be long, many said they've become savvier or at least hardier tourists -- durable adequate to brave a day-long drive with the kids or a long haul by bus rather of flying. Others adjusted their travel timetables to attempt to save cash, flying on less popular days or to airports that were a bit farther from their destination. The weather, along with the economic climate, handed troubles to some.
